Christopher M. GALLUP, 2nd.

Christopher Milton Gallup, 2nd 8 (Christopher Milton7, Christopher 6, Nathan 5, Benadam 4, Benadam 3, John 2, John 1) was born 31 May 1836 in Ledyard, CT and died 26 July 1882 in Ledyard, CT. He is buried beside his wife Hannah LAMB.

Christopher served in the Civil War as a landsman in the US Navy in Vermont, Augusta, and Allegheny. His draft record lists him as a single, twenty-eight year old farmer living in Ledyard. His widow collected a pension. As he died in 1882 at 46 years, she must have needed the pension to keep the farm going. In 1880, he is listed as a farmer with a wife and three children.

Much to my surprise, there was a probate record. The gravestones for he and his wife cost, $93.50. All three children are named in his will and there is an account in a Savings Bank and the wife inherited everything.
