Dudley Wheeler STEWART

Dudley Wheeler STEWART was born in 1822 in North Stonington, CT, the youngest son of Edward STEWART and his wife Rebecca NOYES. He was a selectman in his town and ran the general store. He and his wife built a very nice house and lived there several years until they moved to Westerly, RI.

He was my grandfather's grandfather. When my grandmother gave me this photo and the one of his wife Eliza Fish DENISON, and told me (at about age 8) about them, I was very surprised to hear that my grandparents had grandparents.

Certainly this marked the beginning of my interest in genealogy.

Henry M. Barber

Henry M. BARBER was the son of Capt. Henry Merriott BARBER and his wife Mary P. BLIVEN

Henry had three wives. Eliza M. BEEBE, Emma J. STODDARD and Elizabeth JAMES.

After a bit of research it appears that Eliza was his first wife and mother of his children. He is buried with his second wife. Buried nearby is his little girl Ermie Eliza. Even through she has her own gravestone, her name and dates of birth and death are recorded on one side of this stone.

Henry was the father of Winthrop Warren Barber and brother to my Matthew Stillman Barber.

Mary Gray SWANEY, was the wife of Winthrop Warren BARBER. How do I know that? Because this grave, clearly states it, not on the top in this view but on the side!

It is important to remember to take a look at all sides of a stone since there may be more information on it.

I loved finding out that Minnie's given name was Mary Gray. She is reasting next to her husband and alongside her unmarried son.

A fellow genealogical enthusiast has asked me to post these photos, taken last August, so she can work on learning about the ancestors of one of her friends. This is called an act of genealogical kindness and I am happy to help her out.

I am working out this line and will post more here as I encover more about Winthrop and Minnie.

Removable Dots

Removable Dots

Staying organized is important for all family historians. Some time ago, another researcher sent me print information about our mutual ancestors with these tiny, colored dots next to information she wanted to share with me. I immediately emailed her to find out where she obtained such a wonderful genealogy "tool".

I found out that the dots were not only color-coded but removeable. They are handy for so many things, pages in books, pedigree charts, printouts of gravestones and even "to-do" lists.

Inexpensive and reuseable, these come in packages manufactured by Avery and Staples.

Connect the dots in this genealogy year of 2008!
