Col William Stebbins FISH (Charles8, Sands7, Nathan6, Nathan5, Samuel4, John3, Alice2, John1) was born 25 Aug 1833 in Stonington, New London, CT the fourth child, last son of Charles and Esther B. (Williams) FISH. He was the only surviving child and his sister and two brothers are buried here.

Col. Williams Stebbins FISH was in the 1st Connecticut Cavalary (cavalry officer) during the Civil War. He enlisted 05 October 1861 and is listed as being of Distinguished Service. He may have been on duty for a time at Glasgow, Scotland as his son Edmund also d. there. Col Fish died 10 Apr 1879 in Glascow, Scotland.

William was enlisted as a Captain on 05 Oct 1861 as a commission in Company C. 1st Cavalry Regiment, CT on 26 November 1861 and then was transferred from Company C to Company S on 15 August 1862. His promotions were to full Major (15 Aug 1862), to Full Lieutentant Colonel (21 March 1863) and then to Full Colonel (21 January 1864). Dismissed from Company C on 25 April 1864. His pension record lists his widow, Horentense filing for pension on 12 Oct 1889. (Application # 406286, Certificate # 299646)

Hortense Desire GALLUP (Palmer8, Benadam7, Benadam6, Benadam5, Benadam4, Benadam3, John2, John1) was born 29 Sept 1836, daughter of Palmer GALLUP and his wife Desire BALL. She married Col. William Stebbins FISH 14 Sept 1856 in Suffield, Hartford, CT. Hortense died 12 Oct 1902 at the home of her son William, at Roseville in Newark, Essex, NJ.
