Histopolis

Maplewood Cemetery

Go to their Web page by using this link as described in their user policy.

The Web site has free registration so that users can contribute information. It is self described as:

"Histopolis.com provides genealogy and history resources by place (country, state, county, township, city and cemetery) with information on over 125,000 cemeteries and 200,000 other places in the United States and Puerto Rico."

If you click on the screen shot that I made you will see that you use it by choosing a series of places using a drop down box menthod.

Try it with a cemetery that you are familiar with to compare the information that you already know with what is given there. As you are choosing the name of the cemetery be sure to look at the other choices given there. You may find cemetery names in that city or town that you don't know about.

Histopolis has a Facebook page.

Let me know what you think!

As of Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, Histopolis' website is not there. Likely server problem or just??? I tried the site through several other links and nothing worked. Gone.

I think that may have been temporary. I can access it now. Please try again.

Hi Midge, Yes, it was very like a server issue. I just accessed the site. Good to see it working well.

Midge, thanks for the mention of Histopolis. We did indeed have a server issue on the 13th but it was resolved after a few hours.

Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestion that would make Histopolis more useful to you. We just added the capability for users to edit basic cemetery information or add alternate names for a cemetery.
