These bags, purchased from The Container Store, are what I am using to store my husband's family photos. They are reasonably priced.
You place the photo inside and tear off the protective strip and fold over the top to "seal" the photo inside. It can easily be opened to take the photo out.
I am putting the photos in the bag and sorting them before scanning. Then, I scan and archive the scan. I put a "dot" on the outside of the envelope so that I can tell that I have done that photo. Then, I put it in the archival box or give it away to family members.
