Teaching Cemetery Research: Past Cemetery Names

Farms and Graveyards
The graveyard that I just photographed yesterday, like many others in New England, was once known by a different name.

Nearby is the Pilot Grove Farm and this graveyard/cemetery was named for their farm. The farm is owned today by the same family! The people, named Warren, have owned it for 229 years.

These farms care called Century Farms because of the fact that they are still working farms.

It is important to know if the cemetery you are trying to locate had another name in the years previously. It pays to look at the surrounding area when you find the cemetery. You might find a neighbor who knew your family's ancestors!

In Massachusetts, we are lucky to have David Lambert's book to guide us to the right town!
