Hatches, Matches and Dispatches

I was amused by this note that my mother-in-law handed me when she returned from a trip to the UK. A man told her where the records were kept in Scotland and told her in a glib way what the slang for birth, marriage and death records were called. She was amused.

Hatches, Matches and Dispatches. Certainly this describes the process of vital records. I have had many questions about how I finally got successful at searching at Scotland's people so I am going to share my secrets. If you have secrets that I don't know, I encourage you to share them with me. [midgef@midgefrazel.net]

All great genealogy work starts with interviewing family. As my grandparents who came from Scotland died before I was born, I had to rely on the memory of their children. It was an adventure I will never forget.
