Smiling Ancestors


Smiling Faces

Gravestones in New England are carved by many interesting men. At first look, this ancestor appears to be smiling at us from the beyond. However, this is not a "portrait" of anyone's ancestor. It is just the style of the period. If I looked hard enough, I might find a gravestone with this same smiling face in another cemetery.

She looks so serene and content, doesn't she?
