Rev. Elihu Chesebrough, IV and wives
It is common for the local minister to have a wonderful gravestone.
Chesebro Cemetery with Rock
Chesebro Lane Cemetery
On Chesbro Lane, this small family cemetery is not in very good shape. It is across from the old Velvet Mill.
Most of the people resting here are family and relatives of Rev. Elihu Chesebrough, IV, a Baptist minister who lived from 1769-1867.
Ray Brown has a partial listing of those buried here. I found it did not match the stones I can read. Larry Chesebro's excellent Chesbro Web site did list a set of my 8th great grandparents as buried here (which I came to visit!) but he and the Chesebrough Genealogy agree that this is not the case. They are buried somewhere in the Taugwonk area.

James Albert Barber
I immediately scanned it and uploaded it to my Flickr account. The interesting fact is that James's photo taken here was taken in the same photography studio (Schofield Bros) in Westerly as my other 2nd great grandfather, Joseph Schofield.
These two men along with Charles Turner Evans all fought in the Civil War. I don't know too much about Charles Turner Evans who served in Company H, 27th Massachusetts infantry.
Brian hosts a blog on Medal of Honor recipients and had this to say about James and my connection to Robert Grandchamp of Rhode Island who is writing a book on James's unit.

Betsey WILCOX
Betsey WILCOX was the first wife of George C. GARDNER and is buried in Section 22 of River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, Rhode Island.
Baby son George was born [calculated from gravestone] 31 Jan 1863
George C. GARDNER and Lucy SCHOFIELD
George C. GARDNER [1834-1912]
Lucy Ann (SCHOFIELD) GARDNER [12 Jun 1847-1937]
George was brother to my Sarah GARDINER who married Joseph SCHOFIELD and Lucy was sister to Joseph SCHOFIELD.
George's first wife Betsey WILCOX and their infant son George are also buried here.
Notice, the grave behind this one is their son and his wife.
GARDNER Stone (back)
His wife, Margaret, was born 12 Aug 1872 [in that passenger record] in Lowell, MA and the couple lived at 1732 Main St. West Warwick, RI in 1937. The gravestone lists 1872-1939.
This couple had no recorded children and in the 1910 Census had been married 18 years. Her parents were born in Ireland. Her husband's parents are listed as born in MA and RI.
GARDNER Stone (front)
This the the front of a GARDNER stone for George A. GARDNER and his wife Margaret. It is in Section 22 of River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, Rhode Island.
It is near the graves of George C. GARDNER and his wives so I am fairly sure this is a son of George and his second wife Lucy SCHOFIELD.

View of GARDINER Stone
This is a view of the GARDINER double-sided stone. Notice the small headstones surrounding the large one.
For the parents, they simply say Father and Mother and for Dorcas and Jabez their children the smaller stones bear their initials.
There is a G plot marker in the foreground. The nearby graves are of the surname CHAMPLIN.
Dorcas GARDINER and brother Jabez GARDINER, Jr.
This the the reverse side of the gravestone for Jabez Champlin GARDINER and his first wife Eliza BICKNELL.
Dorcas is listed in the 1900 census as being widowed with one child now desceased.
In one record it says she married a man named GARDINER. All the census records I can find, list her living with her parents. One census lists a child Charles, age 1, and this may be her son?
Jabez , Jr. never married. This GARDINER family's work was in the woolen factory business
Jabez C. GARDINER and Eliza BICKNELL
Eliza is a descendant of Zachary BICKNELL who came to Weymouth, MA abt. 1636.
The reverse side of this stone bears the names of their daughter Dorcas and son Jabez, Jr.
