This is a view of the reverse side of the large gravestone of Jabez Champlin Gardiner (facing the water) and the location of the Champlin gravestones in the "next plot" in front. One of the great things about this cemetery is the flat granite plot markers defining the boundaries of the plot.
A monument like Jabez's often has headstone with names or initials to mark the actual burials. You can see them here in the foreground of the photo with the flat plot marker to the close left.
The group of Champlin monuments is so close by, I was sure that there must be a relationship even if the families were neighbors or friends. This is why it is important to take photos like this when you find an important, direct line gravestone for your family.
