Youngest child of Benjamin F. HOXIE and his wife Harriet CLIFT, Nellie Denison HOXIE was born 15 August 1858 in Mystic, New London, CT when her mother was 42 years old. She appears, living with her parents in the 1860 and 1870 census.
Interestingly, she is listed in the 1880 census, living with her parents at the age of 21 with an occupation as a housekeeper. The Dension genealogy [p. 458] lists her marriage to Frank E. BELDEN on 13 Nov 1880. This means that to put the timeline in the correct sequence, I had to return to the 1880 census and locate the date for that census year, which was 1 June.
In the 1900, she and Frank have no children but there is a daughter, Christine living with them. This indicated that Frank was married previously and was probably a widower. This blended family lives in Hartford. They move around in the subsequent census years, probably because of his work.
Nellie died 23 July 1941at the age of 82 according to this headstone.
