Sudden Cold and Arguments

As it suddenly turned cold here in Massachusetts, I am reminded of a funny story that my mother told me "when I was old enough". I'm 65 and I am still not sure what that really means.

It seems that one cold winter day, my parents had an argument. Well, my mother had an argument. My father, the easy going guy he was seldom was angry or yelled (except at politicians or at sports on TV). As I have no memory of this incident, I must have been at my grandmother's house.

She told me that for supper she made Shepard's Pie. It is a concoction of browned ground beef, gravy and mashed potato (hubs wants peas mixed in but they aren't on my diet, so I make them separately).

Evidently, the fight went on for a while and she left the casserole in the oven to stay hot and get the mashed potato brown and crunchy.

By the time she served it it was burn your mouth hot. So my parents sat at their tiny, two person, kitchen table and blew on their plates. That made them laugh and the argument was forgotten.

The wintry cold weather can made moods go south. Don't burn your mouth on hot food. Write down your family stories, even the silly ones.

Hi Midge, I'll be sure to write down my parent's funny incidents. Outstanding idea!
