Row #4, Grave #308-10-061, GPS 41.41687 N - 71.97191 W

Gallup, John, son of Ben & Hannah, born 13 Jan 1753 died 09 Dec. 1770 in his 17th year of age.
John GALLUP
These gravestones all in a row are all of the children of Benadam Gallup and his wife Hannah Avery who all died of typhoid fever within 10 years of each other. All information is from the 2009 Gallup genealogy page 93. This is gravestone #61.

We are lucky that this stone can be read because of Brian's excellent photography. The footstones in this cemetery are often the same size as the  children's gravestones and when the graveyard was surveyed in the 1930s by the WPA project and put in the Hale collection, this broken gravestone may have looked like a footstone and wasn't recorded.

It clearly says John and his birth is recorded in the Barbour Index as 13 Jan 1753. The death date is harder to read but Brian has transcribed it correctly. This is one of those damaged gravestones that while you are standing in front of it, you are wondering if you will ever figure it out. He was 17 years old.

Just to make a point, this is my photo of this gravestone:
