Eliza Ann COTTON

As I continue exploring my husband's ancestors, I am starting to work on his COTTON and MERROW line.

This is one of my husband's second great grandmothers Eliza Ann COTTON, wife of James Rogers MERROW.

They died in Avon, Massachusetts but are buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Marlborough, MA with several of his other ancestors. Eliza's headstone reads E. A. M. (notice this is her married name!)

This is a good lesson about gravestone hunting. Where people died is NOT always an indicator of where they lived most of their lives OR where they are buried.

Eliza was born  on May 4 (TODAY) in 1824 in Freeport, Cumberland Maine. She was the daughter of Jeremiah COTTON and his wife Salome SYLVESTER. Eliza had many siblings. One brother, Augustus, wrote letters to her during and after the Civil War.

To be continued....
