Sentimental Sunday: the Porch

I was thinking this morning about porches. This is my grandfather sitting on the porch of the beach house at Bonnett Shores in Narragansett RI. I was thinking about how houses come full circle sometimes.

We have a bigger porch than this one but we have wicker style furniture and blinds on our windows. Porches are meant for relaxing and cooling off in the depth of summer.

Of course where the sun hits makes a difference and we have central air but it is nice to go outside and look at the new houses being built in our neighborhood.

Grandpa looks old in this photo but he was in his 60s. People just looked older then, I think.

I am glad to have a porch.

Porches were such a big part of neighborhood dynamics. I miss not having one.

The porch on the house I grew up in was very important to me. I played house out there with my baby brother, & I knew every board in the floor. Underneath was where our cats always had their kittens!
