Phebe (Sylvester) CURTIS

The front side of yesterday's post is this photo of a well-to-do old lady. I have not cropped out the photographer information so anyone who sees it might be able to tell me more about her.

I have worked on her backwards from her Maine Death record. She was married to a man named Reuben Curtis but I am not sure if he the man who was a minister or not (or maybe his son)

She died of "old age" on 25 April 1891 at 82 years, 4 months and 25 days in Revere, MA but is listed in the Maine index. The second page says she is buried in Maine.

I am fairly certain that she is named for her mother Phebe Soule and her maiden name was Sylvester. Her father was Amos.

I have some census records but without knowing exactly who her husband was, I am not sure I have the right family.

Probably a real fur coat, don't you think?

Thanks, Charlie. As I have been working on this I am working on my husband's Mayflower application at the same time.

I have that Soule volume. I am going to write about that probably on Wednesday. Thanks for Louise's email address.

But, which Reuben Curtis was her husband? I continue to look.

Well we may be cousins then, my Soule line is George, John, Moses, Barnabas, Elizabeth (Soule) Chandler, Betty/Elizabeth (Chandler) Dillingham, and then down the Dillinghams to my grandmother.
I think they are working on the next generation from George Soule, so Louise may be looking for your Phebe Curtis.
