Col. Nathan Gallup
(Benadam, Benadam, John, John)

Nathan GALLUP was a soldier of the Revolution and was stationed at Fort Griswold once the site of a battlefield, it is now preserved as a military historical state park. It is in present day Groton, CT. [my photos here] Once called "The Battle of Groton Heights", it played a significant role in the early days of the American Revolution on 6 Sept 1781

The Gallup (2009) genealogy states that Col. Gallup was stationed there in 1779 and served in Lt. Col. Sullivan's Expedition to Rhode Island and was appointed Colonel of the 27th "regiment of foot" by Gov. Jonathan Trumbull in 1780.

His wife Sarah GIDDING died, along with her adult son, Nathan in 1778. According to his will, he married again to a woman named Mary. Not all of his children were married by 1779-1780 when he was serving in the military. Nathan died at the age of 72 on 19 Jan 1799. He must have many descendants. Are you one?

Col. Nathan GALLUP's name is also carved on a memorial rock near the back of the cemetery along with other heroes buried here.

The condition of Nathan's headstone is remarkable - so well preserved after so many years! I hope your post results in new connections with Nathan's descendants.
