Asa Lyman GALLUP

Asa Lyman Gallup, born 21 Feb 1814, is buried next to his wife (and cousin) Eliza (Gallup) GALLUP. She died in 1879 leaving him alone as they had no children. After his marriage to Eliza on 9 Dec 1840 in North Stonington, New London, CT, he farmed his father-in-law's (Nehemiah GALLUP II) farm.

Asa's lineage is Andrew, Henry, Benadam, Benadam, John, John. His father Andrew was in the massacre at Fort Griswold, CT and the 1850 census tells us that Andrew Gallup was part of his son's household. Asa was still farming until 1870 according to the agricultural census. It was a house and farm of 23 acres of improved land growing Indian corn and oats.

Asa was the youngest child in his family so having his wife father's house and farm made his livelihood. In 1900, a year before his death he is living in Norwich, CT and is listed as Uncle in the household. He was 86 in 1900. He is listed with his sister, Eunice Gallup Rouse's (1794-1877) (wife of Benjamin), daughters Maria Waterman Rouse, Nancy Rouse and Harriet C. Rouse Cheney. Not having children of his own made it hard to find him in the 1900 census.

Asa Lyman Gallup died on 30 Sept 1901 at the age of 87.
