Happy 8th Anniversary!
Heather and Chuck's Weddiing Day, Orlando FL, 2005 |
Not Looking Out to Sea
On July 2, 2005, my daughter got married at the wedding pavilion at Disney World. We didn't know that the photographer was going to take them out to take a few photos overlooking what I think is Lake Buena Vista. This is the only photo (in color) that even remotely looks like they are looking out to sea.

Sometimes, it is fun to look at not-so-old photos and laugh at what we are saying to each other. The photographer captured us under her veil and we both thought that was pretty strange. The "style of the day" was to take angled photos. I wonder what people will think of that 100 years from now.
I'm supposed to be admiring her rings. The diamonds in her wedding band are ancestral. OK, now I have both themes in one blog post.
Happy Anniversary!

Happy Fourth of July!
Happy Fourth of July!, a photo by midgefrazel on Flickr.
This is our LAST first holiday in our lovely new home, as we moved in last September 2, 2010. With every passing day, I am glad we made the decision to move to a new town and a new house. It has been an adventure. Thanks for moving with us and continuing to read my blogs.
Since we have this porch railing, Steve decided to buy some bunting and put it up with those removable clear clips.
Granite-in-MY-Blood reminds everyone to have a safe and fun-filled holiday.

Thirty Nine Years
This faded photo is the one my in-laws chose to have from our wedding photos thirty nine years ago today. As you can see, it is faded and dirty. It was in a frame in their dining room until they moved from their house to a retirement facility. I was hoping it was not lost.
It is the only one of its kind so I have put it in an archival envelope and put it in the album box.
They chose this because they too were married in this very spot in 1937. I thought that was cool family history.
Next year is forty. Guess I should do something special. Not many of my friends have made it together that far.

SNGF: Super Midge
Randy Seaver wants to know if I have a genealogy super power. Yikes.
Well, here's a not so flattering photo of me taken last July 4th in the oldest graveyard in Bridgewater teaching my friend how to read and photograph old gravestones. The gravestones here are a real challenge. Fortunately, the printouts of a cemetery transcription made me look SMART!
After all, there's granite-in-my blood!

Happy Birthday
You Can Go Home Again! Use City Directories....
This is a photo of the only birthday party I had as a child. Having a December birthday has always annoyed me. People actually have given me Christmas decorations for my birthday gift. I read somewhere that if this happens to you, you should go right out and buy a decoration for that gift giver and give it to them for their spring, summer or fall birthdays until they get the message.
Sadly, I have lost track of three of the little girls in this photograph. All of them were neighborhood friends. The "bigger" little girl is my Facebook friend, Linda Worcester Chappell who lives in California. She tells me she remembers this party. I do remember this dress and that my mother fixed my ponytailed hair with a bow. Hey, I am only 7 years old (it is 1954). Fashion was different then.
I have no idea why my mother is opening my gifts. She loved parties. I love being alone, doing what I like to do without doing what others tell me I should be doing. I am 62 today and plan to do exactly what I want all day. [Pout!]
I have studied the Cranston, Rhode Island City Directories [via Ancestry.com] for my old neighborhood (and of that of my grandparents too) They are a real genealogical treasure. It lists the parents names of these little girls. One of these girls had a terrible family. They moved out in the middle of the night. Twenty years later, the neighbors were still talking about it.
Oddly, my parents are not listed in the 1950 directory even though they bought the house and moved into it in September of 1947. ( I found the title to the house after my parents died!) The rest of the years listed, are a fascinating look at life in a neighborhood plat where all the houses were built within two years. They even put a tiny telephone symbol next to the houses that had telephones. How antique!
