Surname Saturday: RICE

Next weekend, my husband, Steve, who is a descendant of Deacon Edmund Rice and I will travel to nearby Sudbury to the annual Rice Reunion.

The Rice family association is very active. They have a Facebook page, a Twitter feed and a Web site. Best of all they have a DNA project.

What is unusual is the great Wikipedia Page about Deacon Edmund Rice! I did not have to work hard to find the right information, the right journal articles and the corrections to early writings that have now proved to be false. I spent a pleasant afternoon locating the vital records at NEHGS and capturing the TAG articles referenced on their Web site and the Wikipedia article.

Hubs is a Rice for four generations until Bethia Rice (1622-1754) married Jonathan NEWTON (1679-1753) on 28 Oct 1708 in Marlborough, MA

Deacon Edmund Rice, Deacon Edward Rice, Daniel Rice, Bethia Rice, Thankful Newton, Nathan Fay, Rebeckah Fay, Abraham Hyde, Vergene Ovando Hyde, Linda Hyde, Wilbur Hyde Frazel and my husband Stephen Hyde Frazel. (I have only found gravestones for Nathan Fay onward except for the memorial stone of Deacon Edmund Rice)

Recently, a Rice descendant traveled to England and found the baptismal record of Thomasine Frost. She has shared it on Facebook.

This is how it should be done.
